Responsibilities

The Sponsored Programs Administrator is a position that reports to the Assistant Director of Sponsored Programs. The primary responsibility is protecting the interests of the Institution by working with researchers, business officers and administrators and serving as the point of contact and liaison with federal, state and private funding agencies and their representatives for grants and contracts.  As an administrator, Ms. Woodard performs both pre-award and post-award functions by assisting researchers with their preparation and submission of research proposals, reviewing contract and awards packages, monitoring/approving all expenditures, preparing journal entries, monitoring cash balances, invoicing and requesting project extension.

Education & Experience

Valerie Woodard has been with the College of William & Mary and the Virginia Institute of Marine Science (VIMS) in higher education administrative positions since 2006.  Prior to her current position, Ms. Woodard served as the Program Service Coordinator for the Office of Finance at VIMS (2006-2015) and as the administrative assistant to the Vice President of Finance and Administration/Comptroller (1999-2006) for Christopher Newport University.  Ms. Woodard has over 19 years of service in higher education and earned a master’s degree in Business Administration from Averett University in 2010.

Community Service

Ms. Woodard exhibits her community service through her participation as a volunteer for many of the activities of the Hampton Public School System.  She has served on several committees and became actively involved in the technical interests of their students.
