VIMS Student Research Grants
Deadline for submission of proposals for the 2024-25 Student Research Grants is August 30, 2024 at 11:59 PM. EST.
The Student Research Grant program provides funding opportunities to students enrolled in William and Mary's School of Marine Science at the Virginia Institute of Marine Science (VIMS).
The Student Research Grant Committee (SRGC) grants up to the total amount made available in the Student Research Grant Fund, plus other secondary resources that may become available on a year-to-year basis. Past awards have typically been between $1,000-$2,000 each, but the level awarded to each successful student applicant may vary from year-to-year depending on the total available funds, the quality of that year's proposals, and the evolving format of the grant award. Refer to Request for Proposals for more information.
The maximum request allowed for this call is $2,500 per proposal.
Award Criteria
The criteria for selecting proposals for funding are meant to mirror those used by reviewers evaluating highly competitive proposals to federal agencies. These include the significance and originality of the proposed work, the organization and clarity of the proposal, and the past performance of the student investigator, as detailed in the Request for Proposals.
Funding is determined on an annual basis by members of the Student Research Grant Committee (SRGC), a standing faculty committee of the VIMS Academic Council, and will be officially awarded by the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs.
Award Stipulations
The Student Research Grant Committee (SRGC) requests that all recipients acknowledge support from this grant in all resulting publications, and also that they send a copy of the publication to the SRGC Chair.
