Distribution & Habitat
The sea gooseberry is a rare visitor to Chesapeake Bay during the spring.
Sting
Ctenophores like the sea gooseberry do not sting. Instead, their tentacles possess special adhesive cells called colloblasts that release a sticky, mucus-like substance to trap prey.
Size & Shape
Size and shape similar to the sea walnut. However, the sea gooseberry lacks the large lobes of the sea walnut, and retains long, sticky tentacles into adulthood.
Color
Transparent to white.
