Greetings!
Hello everyone and welcome to the Conch Reef Expedition-2009 blog!
Preparations are excitedly underway here in Virginia for the big trip to Florida. It looks like the weather will be as expected for Florida in mid-August, highs in the lower 90s and chance of storms every afternoon.
Tomorrow, we pick up the rental truck and begin packing all the gear and AUVs. We shove off from VIMS on Saturday morning and head down I-95 to roughly the Georgia/Florida state line, where we'll stop for the night. We'll finish the trek down to Key Largo on Sunday and get settled. Monday and Tuesday will be spent doing AUV systems checks and further mission planning. If all goes well, we should begin the reef mapping on Wednesday, so stay tuned!
That's all for now. Talk to you again soon!
