The 2018 PPFA Administrator Award goes to Ms. Betty Barrack.
Betty Barrack has 35 years of state service with 28 of those years at VIMS. Her VIMS career began with 6 years as a Grants Administrator, managing awards in excess of $11 million annually from most if not all the federal agencies that support the Institute, including NOAA, NSF, NIH, and EPA. She was then promoted to Manager for Planning and Budget where she helped develop, coordinate, and formulate the Institute’s biennial operating budget. She later served as accountant to the VIMS Foundation, and migrated its financial operations into Banner.
Betty currently serves as Budget Director for VIMS, managing the Institute’s $46 million annual operating budget in coordination with VIMS’ leadership, William & Mary, and state agencies. She also serves as Director of Financial Operations for the VIMS Foundation, overseeing more than $10 million in assets.
Despite her competing deadlines, Betty is always willing to pause her work to help others. She has served on countless search committees, and generously shares her vast knowledge and expertise in support of the entire VIMS community. She has mentored and inspired many who are currently serving in leadership positions at VIMS and other institutions. Betty is most deserving of the VIMS Outstanding PPF Administrator Award.
