In 1973, G. J. Paulik created a diagram that qualitatively depicted the theoretical non-linear links between life history stages of Pacific salmon. This diagram suggested that density-dependence during juvenile and adult stages could be as important as that occurring during larval stages. In the book The Dynamics of Fish Populations by B. J. Rothschild, the term “Paulik Diagram” was used as an interpretation for the importance of larval and adult fish density dependence.
