Get Involved in Research
There are a number of ways to get involved in research in marine science, including through paid, credit-bearing, and volunteer opportunities during the academic year and summer.
Join the Undergraduate Marine Science Listserv
Available research opportunities are often sent to students via email through our listserv. Email Chris Hein or Nick Balascio to join.
Email Faculty Directly
Check out the VIMS faculty, Biology faculty, or the Geology faculty and explore their areas of research. If you find a faculty member whose research interests you, email them! Be sure to include information such as: 1) your year in school and program of study, 2) research interests and how they align with the faculty member, 3) relevant coursework completed, and 4) type of position you are looking for.
Apply for Positions
There are a number of local and national research opportunities that students can apply for. Check out sites like the *National Science Foundation Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) program for summer opportunities and the William & Mary Charles Center for various internship and grant opportunities.
*VIMS has their own REU Program! Check it out here.
