Education
- B.S., Mechanical Engineering, University of Missouri-Rolla
- M.S., Ph.D., Systems Engineering, University of Virginia
Research Interests
My long-term research goals are to improve decision-making processes through improved models, data-to-information transformations, and information delivery systems. For ocean observing systems, this means improved forecast models, data assimilation, comparison with observations, and notification of unusual events.
Recent Projects
- Tidewatch Graphs, maps, and observation station at Tangier Island, Port Isobel, VA: TIPI
- SCOOP: SURA Coastal Ocean Observation Program (Interoperable modeling and data-sharing across many institutions.)
- Model graphics for the Chesapeake bay region.
- Chesapeake Bay Surge Simulation using SCHISM
- Accessing location-based services, for example: through VIMS' Cascade server.
- VIMS THREDDS Data Server (TDS) server
- VIMS ERDDAP Server
- Internal to VIMS campus:
- VimsWiki:DavidForrest on the Sura-VIMS Wiki (only available from *.vims.edu network locations)
- sura-vims-pe6600-1.vims.edu/~drf/ for access to the VIMS SURA machines.
- Real-time Water Observations across several variables and time. Served with graphics, tables, RSS, OPeNDAP, and SOAP.
- Simple statistical surge predictions. These predictions use COOPS' SOAP services and are customizable/calibratable to any location, include data, and served with RSS.
- Data Sharing using SOAP, OGC SOS and others with and OpenIOOS
- Simple Google Earth Inundation This is a demonstration of the use of GoogleEarth geometry for calculation and display of inundation
