Ginny Lascara
Virginia “Ginny” Lascara began her active involvement with VIMS in 2001 as a volunteer on the Annual Fund Committee. She soon became interested in activities surrounding the Annual Art Show and Auction, and began working behind the scenes to make every auction a success. Her mastery at organizing auction-related information has made details of the auction much more workable.
Ginny gives hours of her time to VIMS while owning and operating Black Dog Gallery, a fine-art framing business that specializes in 18th century crafts and artwork. She is also part-owner of Period Designs, a shop with reproduction pieces from early America. She donates framing of artwork to the Auction each year.
VIMS has been a part of Ginny's life for many years. Her father, Admiral Vincent Lascara, served as a member of the VIMS Council from 1990 to 1993. Her brother Joseph and sister-in-law Kathy are graduates of VIMS. For Ginny, it is quite obvious that VIMS is a family affair.
Recognition that Ginny is a volunteer who truly makes a difference led the Institute to honor her with the Freeman Volunteer Award for 2007. The Freeman Award is named for Robert Mallory Freeman, a former VIMS Council member and ardent supporter who passed away in 2004.
